Apartment Review for Algon Gardens - Philadelphia, PA

Firstly, the building is on the corner of a high traffic road, so it's always noisy, and it's old and in poor condition, so you can hear everything your upstairs neighbor is doing. The unit smells, and I am positive that the carpet had not been changed out or at least cleaned before we moved in. But our worst experience came from dealing with Art (Arthur), the building manager as he calls himself. He's a mean old man. All he cares about is collecting rent. We were fooled by him. At first he'd appear super nice and promised us everything. Then after we moved it, every time we needed something, he's either very slow to return calls, or downright rude to us. He's got this self-righteousness attitude, claiming everything he does is according to the rules. The fact is he's too mean to do anybody a favor, unless it will bring in more money for him. For example, he refused to let our friend who's staying with us for a while park in the parking lot in the back even though it was never full; he refused to let us stay and pay a partial-month rent for an extra few days after our lease is up unless we paid him full month's rent, even though it's obvious that there's no one lining up to rent this dump. His excuse was all leases have to end at month-end, but you know it's just his way to twist our arm and get us to pay him one more month's rent knowing that our new place was not ready for us yet. We ended up having to stay at a hotel but I am glad we did not let this a-hole win. Stay away from Algon Garden!
